Thanks to personal computers and the Internet, the potential to copy and circulate works of art--from music and journalism to rock videos and feature films--is a given. In 2002 The American Assembly sought to engage in the discussion about this unprecedented situation and the arguments for and against intellectual property rights. This Assembly asked the question of how fair limits of ownership and free use can be defined when digital technology dissolves such barriers to copyright infringement.
