The US Air Force Academy Assembly

Convened annually since 1959, the Academy Assembly is an undergraduate-led conference held by the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) and co-sponsored with The American Assembly. Cadets help organize and take part in a 3-day discussion of a major theme in American foreign policy, in dialog with academic experts and government officials.

Eisenhower Memorial Legacy Organization

The Eisenhower Memorial Commission recently launched an interactive website that shares the unique history and mission of The American Assembly, which was founded by Eisenhower during his time as president of Columbia University. The Assembly is honored to be featured as the first legacy organization of Dwight D. Eisenhower on the Commission's memorial website.

The Future of the Securities and Exchange Commission in a Changing World

Despite numerous amendments to the Constitution, the basic institutional framework of US government remains largely unchanged since 1787. This institutional conservatism gives rise to regular reexaminations and crises as that framework takes on new functions and faces new challenges.  This volume explores whether that framework remains adequate to the challenges of governing a modern superpower and larger and more diverse polity.

The intitial report from the 1987 Assembly of the same name, this document reflects participants' consensus about the overall health of and challenges facing the American constitutional framework.  Broadly speaking, participants viewed the structure as sound but under considerable stress as the country confronts complex problems in both domestic and foreign affairs.
